Accountant/Bookkeeper

The Helmsman Group is seeking an experienced and motivated Accountant/Full-Charge Bookkeeper to join our company. This internal position works closely with our accounting team assisting with the monthly, quarterly and annual close process including daily functions of the general ledger. We offer a professional environment where dependability, organization and personal responsibility are important.

 

Applicant must have a solid understanding of accounting principles and previous accounting experience. This position will be based at our Emeryville, CA Main office.

Responsibilities
  • Operation within multiple company entities and company files

  • Allocations of cost and inventory identifying variances

  • Research invoices and POs as needed to maintain and resolve issues

  • Accounts Payable – verify and process vendor and expense payments

  • Invoicing of clients, including reimbursable expenses

  • Account Receivable

  • Bank and cash reconciliations

  • Prepare general ledger reconciliations, schedules, and related journal entries

  • Posting of monthly journal entries to record accruals, allocations, recording of inter-company transactions

  • Maintain Fixed Assets

  • Prepare schedules for sales tax, compliance with federal, state, and other local regulatory agencies

  • Ensure compliance of accounting policies and reporting requirements, in accordance with GAAP and internal controls compliance efforts

  • Payroll reconciliations for employee time and processing

  • Coordinate with corporate accounting to ensure timely completion of audit requests and aid in the research and analysis of audit issues

  • Preparation of an Annual Operating Plan (AOP), including detailed Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) cost accounting (including standard cost setting and flexible budgeting)

Requirements
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles

  • Knowledge of cost accounting is beneficial but not a requirement

  • Proficient in working with ERP systems, QuickBooks, Excel and MS Office 365 Suite

  • Professional, organized and disciplined

  • Ability to meet deadlines and be accountable for responsibilities

  • Must be a self-starter, a “hands-on” individual who enjoys challenges and dedicated to getting things done with minimal support and supervision

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Prior accounting experience with comparable responsibilities
